A mysterious unidentified object has washed up on
a beach in the Western Isles, and no one knows what it is.
The approximately 89-foot high tank was discovered by a dog
walker on Poll Na Crann beach on the west of Benbecula, an island of the
Outer Hebrides in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Scotland.
The beach is better known as "Stinky Bay" because of fermenting seaweed
that covers the area.
Alasdair MacEachen, assistant director of
environmental services at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar told BBC Scotland that the object looks like a silo or a
bulk storage tank of some sort, "possibly for storing some
liquids."
He said they may decide to anchor the container to the
beach so that it does not float back out to sea and become a danger to
ships, but advised people to keep a safe distance in the
meantime.
"Although it looks as if it's empty and it's been
ruptured, my advice would be not to go too close to it," he said.
"It's a fairly light construction so you don't want it rolling on top of
someone."
Um, what, so they're just going to leave it there?
Maybe it was the cause of the stench all along...
