The One Occasion Bill Clinton Doesn't Turn Out for the Ladies

Five wives of presidential candidates got together yesterday at the Women's Conference 2007 and discussed their roles in the presidential campaign.  You've got to give these ladies props:  there had to have been at least some teeth-gritting.

"What you are witnessing up here...is history," announced California first lady Maria Shriver.  "Never before in the history of our country of presidential politics have the spouses...gathered together to talk about their lives, to talk about the campaign trail, to talk about what it's like when someone in your family gets up and runs for president."

There are more details about what each of the ladies had to say here.

No-shows?  Judith Giuliani, wife of Rudy Giuliani...and Bill Clinton.  Ah, a chance to get together with the ladies that Bill actually squashed.  And Evelyn McGee-Colbert, if Stephen Colbert is really running - I can't decide.

"We invited [Bill] to serve coffee but he was busy," Shriver joked.

We love Bill though - he's busy working on his Global Clinton Initiative, so he couldn't make it.  Just think about it, though.  If Hillary was elected, what would we call Bill?  The first man?

It would be so groundbreaking.  I just wish I liked Hillary more.
