Dianne Wilkerson Resigns From Senate
Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 by Connie T.

Dianne Wilkerson, the highest-ranking African American female in her state,
has officially resigned from the Massachusetts Senate, after serving 15 years. Yesterday, Wilkerson was
indicted by a federal grand jury on eight counts of attempted extortion, accused of accepting over $23,000 in
bribe money to obtain a liquor license for a local nightclub.
A few weeks ago, on October 28th, Wilkerson
was arrested as a result of an undercover FBI investigation. She was caught on camera
in an FBI sting operation, stuffing $100 bills into her bra. Her colleagues in the Senate unanimously voted
for her resignation, but Wilkerson had rejected the request as "unreasonable."
Her handwritten statement was
short and effective today.
