The Spooky Cost Of War
Friday, October 31st, 2008 by Connie T.

Happy Halloween! Here's something spooky for you.
The Iraq War has already cost America $600-700 billion dollars in the five years since
the invasion. Estimates for the long-term cost of the war - not including that in Afghanistan - show
figures ranging from $4 to $6 trillion dollars.
At a current rate of $10 billion per month,
it's not conservative to say there's no way the U.S. will triumph (or whatever it is we're
trying to do) before spending at least $1 trillion dollars.
So. Just what could we have
done with $1 trillion?
We could have paved the entire interstate highway system in gold.
We could have bought every human being on the earth a brand new iPod.
We could have
provided a free college education for every American who's currently in high school.
We
could have produced enough ethanol and cellulosic ethanol to virtually eliminate our dependence on
Middle-Eastern oil.
We could have covered the cost of enough cancer screenings and vaccinations
to save about 100,000 American lives per year.
We could have taken care of our veterans.
We
could have made every American baby a multi-millionaire by the age of retirement.
These
are just a few of the things we could have done with $1 trillion dollars, according to author of
What We Could Have Done With
The Money, which you can read more info about at the site. Oh, and it's cost you $1,855.40 so far
individually. Unless you're super-rich. (Then it's more.)
