US Attorney's Office Calls On Wesley Snipes To Surrender
Monday, June 23rd, 2008
He hasn't yet turned himself into police custody, but
the US Attorney's Office is requesting that actor Wesley
Snipes begin serving a three-year sentence, instead of being free on bond while his case is
being appealed. Snipes was convicted in April for "willfully failing to
file tax returns" between 1999 and 2001, and District Judge William Terrell Hodges
sentenced Snipes in an Ocala, Florida courtroom.
"In my mind these are serious
crimes, albeit misdemeanors," Judge Hodges said. Three years for misdemeanors? BBC
reported that Wesley asked for mercy on the basis that he is "a spiritually motivated
artist, unschooled in the science of law and finance." Steve Cole, a spokesman for
the US Attorneys Office has now filed a motion requesting Snipes' bond be revoked, and that he turn himself in.
On top of the taxes he failed to pay, prosecution is also seeking from Snipes
$193,716 for scanning, printing, and numbering documents for trial; $21,052 for
time and travel expenses of 13 witnesses; $2,456 for transcripts; and $138.18 for
color copies.
You know what? We don't really care how many thousands or millions Snipes withheld
from the IRS. As you know, we voted for Ron Paul, who wants to abolish both
the IRS and the Federal Reserve, which we completely agree with. The organization - which
is granted no rights to tax private citizens within the Constitution - is less than a
hundred years old. Think of that within the scope of all time. And what does it
serve, besides to terrify people? Americans are more afraid of the IRS than they are
of being mugged. That's f****** sad. Not to mention: where is all of that money
going to go? To the war?
Team Snipes!
