What's Next For Wesley Snipes?

Wow. This is shocking. Nicholas Cage, take heed! After battling the
Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for years, Wesley Snipes
was given the maximum sentence yesterday by US Federal Judge William
Terell Hodges for willfully failing to file tax returns: he was
given three years in prison. Had he been found guilty of the other
counts that were pending against him - felony tax fraud and conspiracy -
he could have gotten up to 13 additional years in the pen. The
AP reports that hours before his
sentencing, Snipes wrote three checks to the feds for $5 million, but it
was too little, too late.
The charges stemmed from failing to file
tax returns from 1999 to 2004, and US Attorney Scotland Morris said that
Snipes owed more than $20 million in backed taxes and penalties.
Snipes' attorneys said they are appealing the verdict and hoping for a
"complete acquittal."
Snipes is a fourth degree black belt, and
would also be a celebrity inmate, so he would likely not have the same
concerns as other inmates might. His co-defendants - Douglas
P. Rosile (a former accountant) and Eddie Kahn
(an author, lecturer, and "veteran tax protestor") got it even
worse. Rosile was sentenced to 4 1/2 years, and Kahn the maximum of
10 years in prison.
What will happen to Snipes' career? Will
that be it? I so loved the "Blade" movies! Snipes is (for
now) represented by United Talent Agency (UTA ).
