Cause Wal-Mart To Remove
A...Product Saturday, December 15th, 2007

There are all sorts of ways that headline
could have gone wrong, so I played it safe. One of the sites on
our News & Blogroll, Feministing, just did some awesome underwear
activism! One of Feministing's readers submitted a photo of a pair of
juniors panties at Wal-Mart that say on the front, "Who needs credit cards..." Yes, who needs to worry about
bank accounts when you can simply use your...wait a minute!!
Feministing blogger Jessica wrote, "There's nothing quite like
telling adolescent girls that they don't need to worry about finances
since they have their very own moneypot between their
legs."
Feministing followed it up with the contact
numbers for Wal-Mart's corporate offices, and asked readers to call and
complain. The panties, which were sold for $2.96 at your local
Wal-Mart, got pulled from stores just one day later.
"We have
directed our stores to remove this merchandise from our shelves," Linda
Brown Blakely, a spokeswoman for Wal-Mart announced.
How long
have the undies been selling there, I think, is the
question?
"File this away for the 'online activist isn't real
life activism' rebuttal files," Feministing posted. W00t! I told
you
we have the best News & Blogroll. Okay, I didn't, but I'm telling
you now.
