Wilson Speaks Out About Vandalizing Tupac's Statue
Monday, June 23rd, 2008
We were just thinking about Tupac Shakur: last week would
have been the rapper's 37th birthday. Yesterday we came across an article on
LiveSteez
about the vandal that defaced Tupac's statue at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for
the Arts in Stone Mountain, Georgia last year.
The vandal's name is Kenneth
Anthony Wilson, and he was not charged with a hate crime because he is also an
African American. 43-year old Wilson turned the Tupac statue from this:

To this:

Is that Tommy Hilfiger underwear on its head? Yikes. Anyhow, Kenneth
has spoken out about his crime, saying, "Yes, I defaced that statue of Tupac Shakur
because the center is a cancer on the community. For we reap what we sow...Tupac Shakur
is no messiah...his center of the arts is in the business of molesting the young
minds of our youths into believing that Thug Life is the American Dream. Afeni
Shakur [Tupac's mother]...resurrects a statue of Tupac Shakur dressed as a reverend
with the Holy Bible in his right hand...[he] was not only weak, he was a complete
fool who never for one minute practiced what he preached."
Wow, that's a lot
of hate (there's actually more than that in the article). Pac
was an artist...a lot of his lyrics were very deep and meaningful. In fact, we just
had "Changes" as the video
of the day on our forum last week. The statue being in a
preacher's costume was probably overboard, but does that justify Kenneth's actions?
