Both Candidates' Citizenship Questioned
Tuesday, October 28th, 2008 by Connie T.

Amongst all of the mudslinging and insults that take place pre-election, perhaps
one of the biggest blows to candidates John McCain and Barack Obama is that for
two people running for President of the United States, their very citizenship came into question.
In July, the New York
Times ran an article alleging that John McCain is not a natural born citizen - as required
of a presidential candidate by the Constitution - because he was born in the Panama Canal Zone prior
to a law that grants citizenship to children of American parents there.
But the Times was
incorrect, as the State Department says that the language of the Immigration and Nationality Act of
1790 (specifically, section 301c) grants natural-born citizenship to children of any citizens of the
US when born beyond sea or out of limits of the States.
And now, a federal judge has dismissed
a lawsuit challenging Barack Obama's citizenship. U.S. District Judge R. Barclay Surrick dismissed a
suit on Friday by attorney Philip J. Berg, who claimed Obama is not a U.S. citizen but instead
a citizen of either Kenya or Indonesia.
