Palin's Broken Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac Record
Monday, October 6th, 2008 by Connie T.

She's said it on the campaign trail. She said it on 60 Minutes - in
fact, it was the only example she could cite for Katie Couric about John McCain's
track record in the Senate. She
said it at the Vice Presidential debate; and she's said it far more times than that. Sarah
Palin just can't stop talking about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Two years ago, remember,
it was John McCain who pushed so hard with the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform measures. He sounded
that warning bell, Palin said at the Vice Presidential debate against Democratic opponent
Joe Biden. But what is the truth? Of all the times she's said it, you'd think
she'd have a strong case: but she doesn't. In fact Republican Senator Chuck Hagel (Nebraska) was
the one who initiated the effort and fought for regulation of mortgage underwriters in 2005.
John McCain didn't sign up as a cosponsor until a year later, and by then it was essentially
pointless as the Republican-led Senate never took up the legislation.
