Figures released today by the top U.S. commander
in Iraq show that suicide bombings are on the rise in Iraq. General
David Petraeus told reporters today that although the number of
high-profile bombings has dropped 60%, suicide attacks using explosive
vests and car bombs have increased in November and December. At
least 24 people were killed and around 100 injured in two suicide bombings
in Iraq on Christmas Day.
"Progress is of course tenuous, and it
could be reversed," Petraeus said.
According to icasualty.org, 3,901
U.S. soldiers have been killed as a result of the Iraq War to date; 4,208 including allies of U.S.-led
forces.
