Pull An Obama And Get Kind To Pups
Friday, November 21st, 2008 by Connie T.

No, that is not Barack Obama's new puppy, but she may have a little something to do
with Barack and Michelle's kind
decision to adopt a dog in need instead of going to a pet store or breeder.
The photo above is in
the book The True
Story of Baby, a three-legged poodle who was a victim of a puppy mill. She was adopted by Jana Kohl and
is now a spokesdog for the Humane Society of the US: she has been photographed with high-profile fans from Barack Obama
to Judge Judy Sheindlin, Patti LaBelle, Jane Fonda, Bill Maher, and Steven Tyler of
Aerosmith, among others.
Yesterday, the Humane Society released the results of a shocking investigation into
the national pet store chain Petland, and discovered that Petland Inc is the nation's largest retail supporter
of puppy mills. The eight-month investigation found puppies in Florida, Indiana, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, and other
Petland stores that came from massive commercial breeders in the Midwest.
In a few short days, ConnieTalk will be making personal phone calls - on video - to Petland's to express our
concern about this inhumane practice. But today, here's what you can do to help.

1. Sign the petition to Petland headquarters
sponsored by the HSUS.
2. Contact a Petland franchise near you and ask them to stop selling puppy mill puppies.
3. On Saturday, December 20th, the Companion Animal Protection Society is organizing a North American protest against
pet shops that sell puppy mill dogs. Please find out how to join them in their efforts by visiting Caps-Web.org.
