The "unofficial" results for the South
Carolina Democratic primary yesterday have been released by
the Democratic Party of SC (SCDP). Barack Obama was presumed the winner after
the unofficial statewide results placed him at almost 30% higher than the
second-place opponent, Hillary Clinton. Barack got 55.4% of the
vote, with Hillary next at 26.5%, John Edwards third at 17.6%.
Of
the candidates who have already dropped out of the race: Joe Biden,
Chris Dodd, and Bill Richardson all scored 0.1% of the vote, respectively
(Biden had 694 votes, Dodd - 247 votes, Kucinich - 552 votes, Richardson -
727 votes).
"Well, tonight, the cynics who believed that what began
in the snows of Iowa was just an illusion were told a different story by
the good people of South Carolina," Obama said last night. Here's
the video:
And, speaking of Barack, he just gave
the Top 10 List on The Late Show with David Letterman.
Here's that video, if you missed it:
Hillary Clinton released a statement yesterday: "I have called
Senator Obama to congratulate him and wish him well."
"Thank you to
the people of South Carolina who voted today and welcomed me into their
homes over the last year. Your stories will stay with me well beyond
this campaign and I am grateful for the support so many of you gave to
me.
"We now turn our attention to the millions of Americans who
will make their voices heard in Florida and the twenty-two states as well
as American Samoa who will vote on February 5th."
Eh, we still miss
Dennis Kucinich. But we're excited for Super Tuesday - both Dems and
Repubs! Twenty-two states will be having their primaries on Feb. 5th
(thus dubbed "Super Tuesday"). There are 50 states and 50
primaries...and these candidates have no time to sleep!
