Protestors Calling For Total Strike On 9/11 Anniversary
Thursday, July 17th, 2008 by Connie T.
We're putting this on our
calendar right now! Protestors have set up a website called VoteStrike,
in which they are calling for a general strike nationwide on the upcoming anniversary of September 11th, 2001.
No school, no work, no shopping, no life as usual...not for the day.
"Sooner or later," the site reads, "All
freedom-loving Americans will realize that the only way to stop those who would bleed our
nation dry, dismantle our Constitution, and dissolve our national sovereignty is
to say 'I will not work for you, buy from you, fight for you, or die for you, until the criminals
are gone from the halls of our government.'" A-men!
The strike, dubbed "Lockdown USA,"
encompasses a variety of we've-had-enough issues, including but not limited to: the Iraq War, civil
rights, possible election fraud, torture, surveillance, corporate media, the environment, and holding
the President of the U.S. accountable for "lies aimed at legitimating or covering up abuses of
power."
If we can start with just one day - and use that day to
take an all-encompassing time-out to show that yes, the American People do still have the collective
power our forefathers laid out for us - it could be a beautiful thing. However, it could also
serve as a blow to our economy in very shaky financial times. What do you think?
