Senate Approves Bank Bailout Despite Public Outcry
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008 by Connie T.

Has anyone noticed that the web pages for the Senate and the House of Representatives
have been super slow to load these past few days? Well, we have, and we have no doubt
that it's due to the thousands of people that have been contacting their Reps to complain about
the threatened $700 billion banks and Wall Street bailout. A popular
Visi Page that hosts an up-to-date
database of Congress contact information has been hit with over 100 visits per minute of
people looking for their Congressperson's e-mail address.
The bad news for the night is
that the Senate emerged from their closed-door powwow tonight strongly endorsing the $700 billion +
bailout package.
Both presidential candidates - John McCain and Barack Obama -
showed up in support of the proposal, which has drawn heaps of angry skepticism from the American
public.
The Senate voted 74 to 25 to pass the initiative. There is $150 billion of tax breaks
for individuals and businesses now in the bill, but that's still at least $550 billion less than
the bill taxpayers will be expected to foot.
The good news is that it isn't over yet. The proposed bailout (aka Financial "Rescue" Plan)
will now move to the House on Friday to be voted upon.

1. Check this
list to see how the Senators from your State voted on this bill. Then contact
them and tell them thank you - or how could you? Obviously the Yea's indicate that the Sen.(s) voted
Yes for the bailout; Nay = No.
2. Most importantly: contact
your Rep in the House before Friday to let them know how you as a voter expect them to vote on
this issue!!
We called
our House Rep and e-mailed both of our Ohio Senators. They both - George Voinovich the Republican
and Sherrod Brown the Democrat - voted yes on the bailout. They are now hearing from us again.
