Who Is
Scott Ritter, And Should We Be Listening?
Tuesday,
May 6th, 2008

Scott Ritter was born into a
military family. He was a Private in the U.S. Army, an intelligence
officer in the U.S. Marine Corps for twelve years, and a lead analyst for
the Marines Rapid Deployment Force. He also served as a chief United
Nations weapons inspector in Iraq from 1991 to 1998. Before the
United States invaded Iraq in March of 2003, William Scott Ritter went
public with his belief that Iraq did not possess any weapons of mass
destruction. Since then, he's been a known anti-war commentator; and
last month, he gave an interview to Matthew Rothschild of The
Progressive, warning that in the waning months of the Bush
Administration, we are at the greatest risk of American military action
against Iran.
I think we have never been at a greater risk of American military
action against Iran...Because the Bush Administration has made it clear
that they seek to resolve the Iranian problem before it leaves
office. They have defined the Iranian problem in quite start
terms. It's a nation pursuing an illegal nuclear weapons
program. It's a nation that retains the status, according to the
United States, as the largest state-sponsor of terror in the world
today.
And if you listened to the testimony of General Petraeus and
Admiral Crocker, it's the nation solely responsible for all that ails the
United States in Iraq today. President Bush responded to Petraeus
and Crocker's testimony by calling the Iranians criminals, noting that
they will be crushed.
