It has been decided today by a
District of Columbia (DC) Court of Appeals that I. Lewis
"Scooter" Libby has been disbarred. Libby--the former
Chief Of Staff to Vice President Dick Cheney and Assistant to the
President of the United States, George W. Bush--was found guilty after a
jury trial for the felony counts of obstruction of justice, making false
statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and perjury,
and has been suspended indefinitely from the practice of
law.
"Having concluded that the respondent was convicted of
crimes involving moral turpitude per se...Accordingly, it is
hereby ordered that I. Lewis Libby, Jr. is disbarred from the practice
of law in the District of Columbia, and his name shall be stricken from
the roll of attorneys authorized to practice before this court," read
the order from the District of Columbia Court Of Appeals
today.
The story first broke on WTOP News Radio in Washington, D.C.

President Bush commuted Libby's
sentence to being strictly a monetary fine, which later became the
subject of a hearing on "The Use and Misuse of Presidential Clemency
Power for Executive Branch Officials" in July of 2007. Five months
later, Libby's attorneys announced that Scooter was dropping the appeals
to his conviction in "the CIA leak case," which was linked to the
investigation into the 2003 leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame's
identity.
