Wild, Wild Horses...Let Them Roam
Thursday, April 16th, 2009 by Connie T.

Under the law, wild horses are protected by the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of
1971. But citing escalating costs and budget cuts, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is actually spending millions
of American taxpayer dollars each year to "manage herds" by holding about 10,000 of these beautiful animals nose to rear in holding pens.
The plan is to euthanize them with gun shots to the head.
It is the policy of Congress that wild free-roaming horses and
burros shall be protected from capture, branding, harassment, or death. - Public Law 92-195.
Madeleine Pickens, the President of the
National Wild Horse Foundation, has constructed a plan to save taxpayers about $700 million dollars, by sending the wild horses to a Sanctuary in
Nevada where they can roam free, protected, in their natural habitat. It would also be open to families and children like a Safari reserve, so that people
can experience the freedom and beauty our ancestors once knew in the wild, wild West. The catch? The plan will never be considered without your help.
 Please visit here, where
you can send off a pre-filled letter to Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Interior, and Mike Pool, Acting Director (and/or add your own text). Help save America's wild
horses. Without you, their fate is death. With you, we can make history!
