No More Recorded Sales Calls
Friday, August 22nd, 2008 by Connie T.

Finally - and I do mean finally - the Federal Trade Commission has announced
that all prerecorded sales calls can only be placed to consumers who have provided written and signed
agreements to receive them (as if anyone would do that).
The ban begins on September 1st, 2009. I'm
not sure why it needs to take over a year to go into effect, but the good news is you don't even have
to be on the Do Not Call list to be covered. No more prerecorded sales calls to you! Though they are a little
easier to hang up on than a live voice, aren't they?
Personally, though, I'm really sick of
getting voicemails that start with "...cash advance for up to $1500" mid-sentence.
Here's the question,
though: will businesses play by the rules? It's no little-known secret that fax spam is still a raging
problem. By signing up for wide ranges of phone numbers--as well as blocking the sender's number entirely--and
providing fake opt-out numbers, companies that provide everything from penny stocks to travel bundles and
miracle creams cost employers thousands, if not millions in paper and ink costs with their fax spam.
This had better not be one of those deals!
