We received a lot of feedback
regarding our recent editorial on Ron Paul's
response to being ignored in the media. Just hours after we posted
that article, it became the #1 story (rated by you, the readers).
Two of the e-mails we received were very interesting, and we'd like to
post them for your enjoyment.
Dear
'Sarcastic Chick,'
Allow me to introduce myself: I am a
short, fat, ugly, surly, half-century-old male who wins snarling contests
with stray dogs!
...And your editorial on Ron Paul just made me
cry.
Please keep up the good work.
Sincerely,
Rex

Thanks, Rex.
That made us a little teary-eyed, too.
Hope.
Of all the positive messages we
received, there is always, of course, a few who strongly
disagree. Here's one of those that I'd like to answer:
Hello ConnieTalk,
I, too, am a Ron Paul supporter
and appreciated much of your article today. However, I would offer
these words of caution.
As knowledgeable as Ron Paul is, there is
only One who is infinite in wisdom and He is very jealous of His
'status.' There is only One who is the source of hope and the
Creator warns any who place their confidence in 'princes' or the 'arm of
flesh,' in other words, a human being or any part of creation, will be,
not only disappointed, but destroyed. The Lord calls all this
idolatry and He hates it with a white-hot holy hatred. He will not
share His glory with another, certainly not his fallen
creatures.
On another point, the meek shall surely inherit the
earth, but it will not be this one. This earth is ripe for judgment
and will be totally consumed with fire. I am afraid this is all our
country can look forward to apart from sincere and deep personal and
national repentance. We cannot expect the Lord to bless us with
wise, righteous leaders, while the people cling stubbornly to their
sins. The fact is there is no hope for America through Ron Paul or
any other source, apart from true repentance. We should be crying
out to the Lord Jesus Christ to give us this gift of repentance and faith
in Him alone. He is our only hope! To Him be the glory
forever.
Sincerely,
Diane Johnson"

Diane,
I'd like to clarify that I was not
implying that Ron Paul should be idolized as a god. I possibly
overstepped with the 'meek shall inherit the earth' comment - as today,
mixing politics and religion often leads to segregation instead of
unification, unfortunately.
But since you took it that way, here is
my personal opinion: God sees and recognizes good people, and
appreciates it when we do the same. Honoring Martin Luther King,
John Lennon, Abraham Lincoln, whomever it is that you respect, does not
constitute sacrilegious idolatry, so long as you're not building his
statue in gold and bowing to it.
And if you do believe in
the Bible, God made a covenant with Noah that he would never destroy all
flesh on the Earth again. Some argue that he meant specifically by
flood; I interpret that, and several other passages, as a promise to keep
this planet standing as long as there is at least one single human being
who solely cares about God's will.
Religion respected and aside, we
need to elect a president. I am sorry if I made you feel that I was
being too enthusiastic. I do not pray to Ron Paul. I simply
admire him.
