John McCain's Camp: The Only Way To Beat Barack Obama Is To Give Us Money Thursday, July 3rd,
2008
 Thanks sloomis08!
Robert M. Duncan, the
Chairman of the Republican National Committee, is at it again. In an e-mail to Repubs entitled
"We Must Set The Record Straight," Duncan slams Democratic contender Barack Obama...then
asks for money.
"In a stunning act of hypocrisy," the RNC Chairman wrote on Wednesday, "Barack
Obama has broken his pledge to accept public financing for the 2008 general election...After claiming
to run a campaign of change, it seems the only thing he is willing to change is his principles if
it is the politically expedient thing to do."
Doesn't every politician pledge change? And pardon
us, but we recall Senator John McCain flip-flopping
far more than Obama. And regarding public financing, rewind four months: the late Tim Russert
addressed this topic with Barack at the Cleveland, Ohio debate in February. The only indication Barack's
given in support of using public financing was a response to a September 2007 questionnaire from
the Midwest Democracy Network. He also agreed to sit down with the Republican nominee and discuss
a system that "works for everybody." Is that a lie? It depends on whom you ask. It's a sticky one, but
it's not news; it's been covered, and we feel an air of desperation from the McCain camp here.
"There's only one way John McCain and our candidates can counter the Obama
Democrats' massive haul of campaign cash," Duncan continued. "And that's through your generous
support of the RNC." Thus leading into the request for more campaign donations.
The Washington
Post gives this a 3 out of 4 on their "Pinocchio scale," meaning "significant factual error
and/or obvious contradictions." Others believe the decision was based on Obama's belief that the
public financing system is "broken," as Obama has said.
Arguing about the spending limits on
presidential campaigns is a little late now: is there anyone who's really still undecided (well,
besides us?
