Five
And
A
Half Years
Later...R. Kelly
Has
A Trial Date Set
Monday,
December 24th, 2007

We never
thought this day would come. R. Kelly finally has a trial date
set, five and a half years later, for the 2002 child pornography
charges. He had a trial date in September that was postponed, and by
the end of November was still not rescheduled. A Cook County Circuit
Court Judge, Vincent Gaughan, saw R. Kelly in court on Friday and did not
revoke his bond, although Robert Sylvester Kelly, aka R. Kelly
(Sylvester?) missed his scheduled hearing on Wednesday.
Kelly,
who secretly married Aaliyah when she was just 15 years old (he was 27,
and the wedding license falsely listed Aaliyah as 18), was indicted on
June 6, 2002 on 21 counts of having sexual intercourse with a minor
(totally separate and distinct from aforementioned relationship). A
video tape surfaced that allegedly showed Kelly having sex with a
14-year-old girl. I am required to say allegedly.
He is
currently facing 14 of those original 21 charges.
Judge Gaughan
allowed R. Kelly to perform at his concert over the weekend, but ordered him to cancel his January
13th show in Hampton to ensure Kelly will make it on time to his next
court date in Chicago on January 14th. The trial is set for May
9th.
