Iraq War Veteran Recycles Uniforms Into Art
Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Aren't these beautiful? You'll never guess what they're made out of!
Well, yes you will, because you probably read the title of this article. Jon Michael
Turner is a US soldier returned from the Iraq War. The creative veteran has used his
combat duds and his artistic touch to actually make notebooks, art paper, and other items
out of his uniforms!
Turner took up paper art and bookmaking when he returned to the
US, and works out of the Green Door Studio in Burlington, Vermont. According to his
website, he
was discharged from the Marine Corps in 2007 after suffering post traumatic stress disorder
(PTSD).
"Art, poetry and performances have now become my way of letting go of the
past," Turner says. "They also have reminded me of who I was before I signed on that
solid black line. I will never be able to go back in time to change things. All I can
do is look back, learn and progress forward."
He's been working at the Green Door
Studio since August of 2007. You can check out more of his work
here. Does anyone know, by the way, if this is the same Jon Michael Turner who is the
famous Winter Soldier?
