Ralph
Nader Wants A Piece Of The Presidential Pie
Again
Wednesday, January
30th, 2008

Oh my stars. Is there no limit to how many
times a person can run for President? Ralph Nader, 73-year old
attorney, activist, and politician, announced today that he is considering
running again in the 2008 elections, after finding the current candidates
unfit to stand up against corporate sludge. Nader has already run
for U.S. President four times, in 1992, 1996,
2000 and 2004, and lost.
This is bad news for all involved.
In the year 2000, many people were angry at Ralph
Nader for taking votes away from former presidential candidate Al Gore
by running, enough so that the Republicans took the election. The same
thing happened in 2004, when John Kerry ran.
Having someone jump in this
late in the race could hurt either one of the two Democratic candidates
who are left, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
Additionally, Nader's move puts up another random
candidate to possibly confuse Republican voters, who are looking at what
the New York Times called a "flawed"
presentation of GOP candidates.
"Look at the major areas of injustice, deprivation
and solutions that are not being addressed by the major candidates," Nader
said in a telephone interview with
Bloomberg today. He didn't flat-out say it, but he implied that he's
considering a run.
"There
has to be a decision within about a month," he told AFP. He said he's launched a
presidential exploratory committee "to test the waters to see if we can
get enough contributions and resources, such as skilled staff" to run as
an Independent candidate.
Why bother?? It didn't stop you last
time!
The candidate who is currently receiving a lot of
attention from Independents and even formerly Democratic voters is Ron
Paul - the Ron Paul campaign likely encompasses a lot of people who have
previously voted for Nader. This could hurt Paul's campaign,
too.
If Nader were truly concerned about this, he would
get with one of the current candidates - from whichever side, and
whichever candidate he feels will listen to his plight.
But do not screw up the elections again, dammit!
Yes, everyone
should have the right to run. But after losing four
times?!
