Pope Benedict XVI Prays For Peace At Ground Zero
Sunday, April 20th,
2008

Pope Benedict XVI, born
Joseph Alois Ratzinger
When is the last time you read about Ground Zero in the
news? I haven't seen articles on it - or even the
progress of construction there - in a long time. On the last
day of his stay in America, Pope Benedict XVI
visited the site of the 9/11 World Trade Center attack at 9:15 am today,
asking God to bless those who "suffered death, injury and loss" and asked
for peace to be brought to "our violent world." Twenty-four people
affected by the September 11th, 2001 attacks came with the Pope and
hundreds of others gathered around just beyond police barricades,
Catholics and non-Catholic's alike, hoping to see the Pope in
person.

The AP reports that the site where the WTC was
is now usually filled with hundreds of workers who are building a
102-story skyscraper, memorial and transit hub. The remains of more
than 1,100 people have never been identified.
"We ask You in Your
goodness to give eternal light and peace to all who died here," the Pope
said, "The heroic first-responders, our fire
fighters, police officers, emergency service workers, and Port Authority
personnel, along with all the innocent men and women who were victims of
this tragedy simply because their work or service brought them here on
September 11, 2001."
