John McCain's Camp: The Only Way To Beat Barack Obama Is To Give Us Money  Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Thanks sloomis08!

Robert M. Duncan, the Chairman of the Republican National Committee, is at it again. In an e-mail to Repubs entitled "We Must Set The Record Straight," Duncan slams Democratic contender Barack Obama...then asks for money.

"In a stunning act of hypocrisy," the RNC Chairman wrote on Wednesday, "Barack Obama has broken his pledge to accept public financing for the 2008 general election...After claiming to run a campaign of change, it seems the only thing he is willing to change is his principles if it is the politically expedient thing to do."

Doesn't every politician pledge change? And pardon us, but we recall Senator John McCain flip-flopping far more than Obama. And regarding public financing, rewind four months: the late Tim Russert addressed this topic with Barack at the Cleveland, Ohio debate in February. The only indication Barack's given in support of using public financing was a response to a September 2007 questionnaire from the Midwest Democracy Network. He also agreed to sit down with the Republican nominee and discuss a system that "works for everybody." Is that a lie? It depends on whom you ask. It's a sticky one, but it's not news; it's been covered, and we feel an air of desperation from the McCain camp here.

"There's only one way John McCain and our candidates can counter the Obama Democrats' massive haul of campaign cash," Duncan continued. "And that's through your generous support of the RNC." Thus leading into the request for more campaign donations.

The Washington Post gives this a 3 out of 4 on their "Pinocchio scale," meaning "significant factual error and/or obvious contradictions." Others believe the decision was based on Obama's belief that the public financing system is "broken," as Obama has said.

Arguing about the spending limits on presidential campaigns is a little late now: is there anyone who's really still undecided (well, besides us?

ACLU Makes Navy Documents On Iraqi Civilian Deaths Public

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

This week, the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) released thousands of pages of Navy documents detailing investigations into the deaths of Iraqi civilians killed by Coalition Forces in Iraq - one of whom was Mohammed al-Sumaidaie, the cousin of the Iraqi ambassador to the U.S., Samir al-Sumaidaie.

Tila Tequila Dissed By A Girl

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

We've never watched A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila, and don't ever intend to, but we came across this clip of the season finale this week and thought we'd share the ridiculousness for a sort of mid-day eye-roller.

So Tila made her choice, and apparently dumped some dude named Bo for Kristy Morgan, a model and former Playboy poser. Kristy looked at her, covered her eyes, and then dumped Tila.

Now we're going under the assumption that all of this is fake and that all of these contestants are fame-chasers that aren't really concerned with "finding love." Even still, we can't help but answer Tila's questions aloud.

I don't know why I keep getting my heart broken. You chose one who said she was scared and unsure. And, um, you're unsure yourself whether you want to be with a man or a woman.

What's wrong with me? You're on an MTV reality show "looking for love."

What am I doing wrong? You're on an MTV reality show "looking for love."

Quote Of The Day: Paul Begala

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

"You should have seen the joint: wall to wall fat-cats. The limos were lined up around the block. If you'd stood in the middle of the ballroom and yelled, 'Hey dirtbag!' a thousand necks would have snapped around."

Paul Begala, former Democrat White House Adviser under Bill Clinton, of the attendees at the annual Republican President's Dinner.

He also referred to the GOP as the "Grand Oil Party." It's the dirtbag bit that made us laugh, though.

Annoyance Of The Day: A Trip To Plato's Closet

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

ConnieTalk is Connie-Ticked-Off today. So we were cleaning out our closet...most of the stuff went to the Salvation Army, but some of it was new and even with tags, so we decided to check out something new. "Plato's Closet" is a place we've been hearing a lot of radio commercials about: they buy new and gently used clothes for cash (or so they say).

Rush Limbaugh Makes More Than All Of Us Combined

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Apparently we went all wrong going into blogging...the money's in radio! Who thought a political radio show host made this much dough? Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh just snagged himself about a $400 million deal with Premiere Radio Networks - and he gets to work from home.

Limbaugh signed on with Clear Channel Radio for another eight years, penning a deal that gets him $38 million per year plus a six-figure signon bonus. Rush gave this information to the New York Times for an article to be published Sunday, according to the AP. Too late...the word's out now!

And the commentator with the second largest audience? Sean Hannity, conservative commentator for ABC Radio Networks. Yup, he's got a foot in each network - it's the same Hannity of FOX's Hannity & Colmes and FOX News Channel's Hannity's America.

Does this mean conservatives listen to radio talk more often, or that there aren't enough liberals out there? And how in the world is talking from home for three hours a day worth $38 million a year? The rich just keep getting richer...
