Cleveland Man Incensed Over Catholicism Targeted In The Media
  Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Sam Miller, prominent Cleveland businessman - Jewish, not Catholic - is fighting mad about the seemingly concentrated effort by the media to disparage the Catholic Church in the United States.  The following are excerpts of a speech by well-known Cleveland businessman Mr. Miller at the City Club of Cleveland, given on Thursday, March 6. Even though of the Jewish faith, Miller has been a staunch supporter of the Cleveland Diocese and Bishop Anthony Pilla. It was published in the May-June issue of the Buckeye Bulletin.

Why would newspapers carry on a vendetta on one of the most important institutions that we have today in the United States, namely the Catholic Church?

Do you know - the Catholic Church educates 2.6 million students everyday at the cost to your Church of 10 billion dollars, and a savings on the other hand to the American taxpayer of 18 billion dollars. Your graduates go on to graduate studies at the rate of 92%, all at a cost to you. To the rest of the Americans it's free.

The Church has 230 colleges and universities in the U.S. with an enrollment of 700,000 students. The Catholic Church has a non-profit hospital system of 637 hospitals, which account for hospital treatment of 1 out of every 5 people - not just Catholics - in the United States today.

But the press is vindictive and trying to totally denigrate in every way the Catholic Church in this country. They have blamed the disease of pedophilia on the Catholic Church, which is as irresponsible as blaming adultery on the institution of marriage. Let me give you some figures that you as Catholics should know and remember. For example, 12% of the 300 Protestant clergy surveyed admitted to sexual intercourse with a parishioner; 38% acknowledged other inappropriate sexual contact in a study by the United Methodist Church, 41.8 % of clergywomen reported unwanted sexual behavior; 17% of laywomen have been sexually harassed. Meanwhile, 1.7% of the Catholic clergy has been found guilty of pedophilia. 10% of the Protestant ministers have been found guilty of pedophilia. This is not a Catholic Problem.

A study of American priests showed that most are happy in the priesthood and find it even better than they had expected, and that most, if given the choice, would choose to be priests again in face of all this obnoxious PR the church has been receiving.

The Catholic Church is bleeding from self-inflicted wounds. The agony that Catholics have felt and suffered is not necessarily the fault of the Church. You have been hurt by a small number of wayward priests that have probably been totally weeded out by now.

Walk with your shoulders high and you head higher. Be a proud member of the most important non-governmental agency in the United States. Then remember what Jeremiah said: "Stand by the roads, and look and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is and walk in it, and find rest for your souls." Be proud to speak up for your faith with pride and reverence and learn what your Church does for all other religions. Be proud that you're a Catholic.

Thanks, Pete!

So How Much Cash Have The Candidates Raised Now?

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Ah, but it gets crazier by the month.  For the latest totals of campaign contributions, the Democrats have collected $524.6 million dollars, and the Republican $334.8 million.  Democratic Senator Barack Obama has collected the most contributions, at $234.7 million, followed by Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton at $189.1 million.  Next comes Republican drop-out Mitt Romney at $104.8 million, and then Republican Senator John McCain at $80.6 million.  Republican Congressman Ron Paul is seventh in line (at $34.4 million) after former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Democratic candidate John Edwards.

But something seems amiss, right?  Didn't Sen. John McCain agree to public financing, so that his campaign funds would be part of the public matching program?  How is he up to $80.6 million?  The presidential public financing system only allows for up to a $54 million spending limitation.

DC Madam Conspiracy Theory Takes Root Over March Interview

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

It seems open-and-shut:  Deborah Jeane Palfrey, the 52-year-old woman dubbed in the press as the "DC Madam," was convicted in federal court two weeks ago of running an illegal prostitution ring for the Washington DC's elite.  Yesterday, she was found hanging in a shed by her mother Blanche Palfrey and was said to have committed suicide.  Police announced that they did not expect foul play.  But PrisonPlanet.com, one of the homes of The Alex Jones Show, has interviews posted on their site that tell a much different tale than that seen in Time Magazine.

In fact, The Alex Jones show asked her directly in March about this topic, to which she replied, "No I'm not planning to commit suicide.  I'm planning on going into court and defending myself vigorously."

Ron Paul On CNN's Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

CNN's Wolf Blitzer had Ron Paul in the Situation Room today via satellite to talk to him about Paul's new book, the Republican and Democratic Parties, why Paul is hasn't dropped out of the presidential race, and more.  Blitzer said that Paul's Revolution: A Manifesto is already a huge best-seller.  Paul mentioned the voting records of John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama; but when Wolf asked if Ron Paul had to pick one of those three candidates for President, he said "I would think the one who would most likely keep us from expanding the war is probably Obama."

Chad Kroeger Got A Light Sentence
Friday, May 2nd, 2008  by Esmerelda

Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger was given the minimum sentence at his court date Thursday.

Chad was tested at twice the legal limit when he got his DUI. His punishment? $600 fine and a year without his drivers license. Woohoo!!

He told reporters on the courthouse steps that he didn't condone drinking and driving and that everybody makes mistakes.

Maybe I'm crazy but I feel like if I blew twice the legal limit they'd throw me so far back that I'd be able to braid my leg hair by now. How about you?

The FCC Says TMZ Is 'Bona Fide'
Friday, May 2nd, 2008  by Esmerelda

L to R:  TMZ's Jim Paratore, Harvey Levin, Alan Citron / Radar

The Federal Communications Commission has ruled that TMZ's magazine show is a "bona fide" news program. Before you get all freaked out keep in mind they said the same thing about the 700 Club and ABC Family.

The reasoning behind this is that the FCC says TMZ "reports news of some area of current events in a manner similar to more traditional newscasts." I wonder if they're watching the same show everybody else is.

Anyways, the long and short of it is that now TMZ can have some of the political candidates on their program. As long as it doesn't look like they're is an advantage to that candidate over another one then they don't even have to offer equal air time.

So, who at the FCC gets to decide in they're violating the equal opportunities rule? And if they do investigate it will the election be over already?

NBC Brings Reruns To A New Level
Thursday, May 1st, 2008  by Esmerelda

NBC will be streaming full episodes of vintage shows on various websites. Ads and all.

Some of the shows you’ll be seeing are Battlestar Galactica( the original one), Kojak, Miami Vice, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour and The A-Team.

Some of these shows are currently airing on cable stations. It looks like we may be able to watch them on both mediums. The idea is to take the huge library of content they have and use it to capture a Web based audience that may otherwise never have seen them.

The shows will be running on NBC owned websites only so check out SciFi.com, ChillerTV.com and SleuthChannel.com to see what they’re offering. I guess reruns on demand beat regularly scheduled reruns anytime.

Did Bret Michaels Find True Love?
Thursday, May 1st, 2008  by Esmerelda

In spite of the fact that the first season of Rock of Love was revealed as a fraud, Bret continued on with season two.

Evidently his persistence paid off. Bret Michaels now says that he's found true love with season 2 contestant Ambre Lake and he's handing the reigns over to Richie Sambora. There's no word on what Bret will do next other than this week's appearance on Don't Forget the Lyrics.

After the luck Richie's had with women lately this should be very interesting.
