PETA Finally Scores A Victory With KFC, But Only In Canada
Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Remember when we told you about PETA's "Super Chick Sisters" video
game, that was based on the Super Mario Brothers game but starred chicks headed
to KFC to save Pamela Anderson from Colonel Sanders? It was a game
PETA designed with a petition dubbed "Kentucky Fried Cruelty," to raise awareness
about the inhumane practices that fast food giant Kentucky Fried Chicken reportedly
imposes on their poultry. That was way back in August of 2007...PETA has been
campaigning for more humane methods at KFC for a long time.
Well, there's
finally some good news to report. A major victory was scored by PETA with KFC
Canada.

"Following more than five years of intense campaigning, numerous
undercover investigations, and over 12,000 demonstrations against KFC around the
world, I'm happy to announce that KFC Canada will be making sweeping changes to
the way it raises and kills chickens for its restaurants," Ingrid Newkirk, President
of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals announced this week.
KFC
Canada will be phasing in 100% of its purchases from suppliers that use controlled-atmosphere
killing (CAK), the least cruel form of poultry slaughter. It will also be making
a vegan faux-chicken item available, and will be improving its animal welfare
criteria, among other significant changes.
The question now is: when will
KFC's in America follow suit?
