There's Too
Much Talk About Leeches This Week
Friday, March 28th, 2008

I've never had a leech attached to me
(at least not the water-dweller kind), but I remember them being all over
a relative's leg after swimming in Lake Erie as a kid. Ever
since then I've stayed out of the damn lake. Pamela
Anderson was on The Craig Ferguson show yesterday, and
she told Craig that she was attacked by leeches in a lake when she was 9
years old. Pam proceeded to pull back her sleeve and show him
her leech bruise/scars. Hey, I don't remember seeing those in
Playboy! I can't tell if she's joking or not, though, about
the source of the scars; she mumbled something about she's lied over the
years as to the cause of the marks.
If it's true, it
could be bad news for Demi Moore, who just revealed that she
uses leeches as an alternative to botox injections to look young.
(It also makes me very glad I stayed out of the lake.) Demi told David Letterman last
week, "I feel like I've always been someone looking
for the cutting edge of things that optimize your health and
healing. I was in Austria doing a cleanse and part of it was leech
therapy."
(For the full gruesome details of that little
tidbit, see EntertainmentWise...possibly not for the faint of
heart.) As blood loss can be dangerous, leeches can obviously be
dangerous. I wouldn't suggest trying this at home.
