Iraq War protests spreading faster than wildfire
Sunday, October 28th, 2007

No kidding.  Thousands are marching, city to city, state to state, throughout the U.S., to protest the Iraq War:

There were rallies in a dozen cities, with the biggest crowds in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco.

The "National Day of Action" was initiated by the United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ) coalition (which we link to often).  There were about 10,000 people in the Chicago march, and even more than that in San Francisco.

There is even a website that was put up for yesterday's protests nationwide:  oct27.org.  It helped organize protests in Boston, Jonesborough, New Orleans, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle, and more.

On their site, they say that there were at least 100,000 who participated in marches and demonstrations against the war yesterday.

There is a lot more coverage on that site, where people are posting their own pictures and YouTube video clips of the events that took place yesterday.  Here's one from Seattle:

This is why I love Google News:  This stuff actually makes the front page (as it should when 100,000 people participate!).  One of the people who witnessed around 200 people gathered for the cause in L.A. complained today that the L.A. Times put a small blurb about it only, in the California section under a Bad Air article.

Teri Hatcher dresses up as the Queen of Hearts for Halloween
Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Teri Hatcher donned a crown, lots of cleavage, and some odd lipstick in her Queen of Hearts Halloween costume last night at the Dream Halloween LA 2007 event for the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation .

She brought her daughter to the gala, where Geoffrey the giraffe and Barbie were there, along with trick-or-treating, sundaes, and face-painting.  Jamie Lee Curtis hosted the night, which was sponsored by Mattel, Inc. and Toys "R" Us.

Why can't they have one of these galas (free, though!) in Cleveland?  I want to dress up for a cause!

Meanwhile, Dennis Rodman also dressed up for Halloween this week - we think.  Not really sure what he was doing.

Pics from dlisted.com!

Face the Nation: Bob Schieffer slams FEMA for phony news conference
Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Not that I watch CBS, because you know we boycott them, but we'll still watch it online:  and this clip of Bob Schieffer on CBS's Face the Nation, I like.  He's addressing FEMA's phony news conference (which I still am enraged over).

"The last time I was in Disney World," Bob said, "They had sticks of a certain height stuck in the ground with signs that said something like, 'You must be this tall to ride this ride.'

"Well, FEMA, the disaster relief agency, must use a variation of that to hire its public relations staff.  Somewhere on their employment application, there must be a clause that says, your IQ must be below a certain level to work here.

"How else to explain?..."

Adding forums to your website is easier than ever
Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Sorry, all:  I updated a little less this weekend because I was working on our forums & news chat, which is now up.  It will still be going through updates these next couple of weeks, so we'll be adding many more features!

Stop in and say hi, post a news article or current issue, or just sound off about what's bothering you lately.

I was always scared of forums - ASP vs. MySQL vs. CGI, all of that computer code - it frightened even me, the computer geek!  But I found MySQL to be very easy with GoDaddy, the domain and hosting company that I've got.  Super-easy.

And I found Snitz Forums 2000, a great pre-made forum that you can customize to meet your needs, and add on your own smilies (I found some funny obscene smiley pages in the process, I must admit - I added a couple that had me laughing).

Snitz has a great support forum, and they have MODs and add-ons from beginner to expert:  everything from smilies and avatars to flash video/YouTube stuff, anti spam filters and multiple language support.

Well, since we're not around 24/7 to put up the news, we're trying to make it so that you can be entertained on the site any time, day or night.  I've added a YouTube channel on the front page so that you can scroll through news videos and bloggers.

And through the forum, you can post and view the latest news & current issues any time.  Coolness, I am so excited about our new forum - we hope you like it, too!

Let Kerry Katona smoke and mind your own effing business!
Sunday, October 28th, 2007

I'm sure I know at least a hundred people that would disagree with me on this:  oh well.  I never knew who Kerry Katona was, honestly, until the news of her smoking while pregnant resounded across the news and blogosphere.

"I'll admit I'll have a puff on a cigarette and put it straight out...I probably can give up, but I haven't.  My doctor told me it would be more stressful to give up now that to have one or two."

Kerry, who turned 27 last month, is an English TV presenter, a magazine columnist, and former pop signer of the girl band Atomic Kitten (thank you, wikipedia).

Oh, that's why I've never heard of her.  She's from English television, which I really wish we had here.  I've had it up to my ears with American TV.

Anyways, off the subject.  Everyone's angry and blogging nasty things about Ms. Katona, because she is smoking while pregnant.

Everyone needs to shut up and mind their own business about it.  Smokers are so persecuted!!  Ugh, this is the perfect thing to take to the new forum.  Reasons this is ridiculous:

1)  Many of your parents smoked throughout their pregnancies.  I know many people who've smoked during pregnancy, as much or more, and had completely healthy babies.  What are the proven effects?  Low birthweight or premature delivery is listed, for example, yet those can be due to many other things.

Regardless of that, it is the mother's choice.  It is her body and her offspring, which she - by law - could have aborted.

2)  There are far worse things she could be doing.  After seeing the recent video of Anna Nicole on meth while 8 months pregnant, and knowing how many inner city children that happens to anyhow...it strikes me how a cigarette used to be like having a beer, and now it's a social stigma.

3)  I saw a pregnant woman smoking outside of a convenient store last week.  She, I'm sure, doesn't have a thousand people insulting her and judging her.  Therefore, it is not fair.

This just makes me want to buy her novel now.  It's called Tough Love, just came out, it's a fictional story about a young model, and it's getting some good blogger reviews.  Katona's memoir Too Much Too Young was a Sunday Times bestseller.

Simon Cowell is a lap dance aficionado
Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Simon Cowell spilled his guts to the UK's Daily Star about his pension for lap dances.  He admits that he enjoys going out to gentlemans' clubs often, and is not ready to start a family - or tame his hard-working, hard-partying ways - just yet.

"I don't have a problem with saying I like lapdancers," he said.  "Nothing wrong with that.  If you don't, you've got a bit of a problem."

"I haven't got them living in my house.  Sometimes I go out with some males and we have a laugh...you've got to let off a bit of steam occasionally.  It's fun!"

Even more amusing is that he cites as a reason he's not ready to start a family yet:  "I've got about five million kids in the world at the moment - all the kids that watch our shows."

Justin Timberlake to perform in the Middle East
Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Justin Timberlake is going to Abu Dhabi for his first Middle Eastern concert ever, this December.  His show will take place at the Emirates Palace Hotel on December 6, 2007, his first concert in the United Arab Emirates and the final concert for his FutureSex/LoveSounds tour.

The concert will take place on the grounds in front of the hotel, and about 10,000 are expected already, according to Sheeraz Hasan, the founder of Dubai.tv.  Tickets went on sale on Thursday.

Abu Dhabi has provided the set for the new thriller The Kingdom with Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner.  Laura Bush was also just in Abu Dhabi at the Sheikh Khalifa Medica Center...too bad Justin didn't coordinate his trip with her.  Could you imagine him in the middle of this picture?

Justin's a do-gooder in his own right, I like him.  He kicked off the Australian leg of his world tour at Brisbane's Boondall Entertainment Centre by making a $100,000 donation to the late Steve Irwin & family's Australia Zoo.

I kind of can't picture him performing FutureSex/LoveSounds in Abu Dhabi, though.  Is that allowed?
