Right on the Heels of Miss USA:  The bigger, the badder -
MISS NEVADA ! ! !

Today all electronics are user-friendly, from laptop computers to dvd players to digital cameras. Another example is the flat panel tv.

And I'm not kidding.

From the Miss Nevada USA's website:  "Statement by Paula M. Shugart, President of the Miss Universe Organization regarding Katie Rees:  'Katie Rees has been relieved of her duties as Miss Nevada USA 2007.   First runner-up Helen Salas will assume the title and compete at the 2007 Miss USA Pageant on March 23 in Los Angeles, California."

The Miss Universe Organization acted right away when scandalous photos of Miss Nevada Katie Rees hit the internet.  Assumably not wanting another another pageant-winner controversy (a lot Donald Trump), the page simply redirects to the face of a smiling new Miss Nevada Helen Salas.  (It's worth wondering whether or not one of the men in the background is one of Helen Salas' best friends...)

The pictures show former Miss Rees exposing herself at some bar & grills and outside of buildings.  There are up-close photos of Rees' tongue action with another girl, many provocative and chest-baring photos, and even somebody's manhood in her mouth.

When I see something like this, I am 100 times less likely to have harsh feelings toward the girl - because this is a reflection on Miss USA/Universe's flaws.  Why don't they properly interview and assess the candidates, and concentrate more on intelligence and motivations rather than silly talents and group skits?  I honestly am all for the bikini part of it, and would never try to take that away from the pageant, because it's part of what it's about.  But there are so many women in the world who are gorgeous and incredibly SMART, why can't they focus more on that in the pageant?  Instead of promotional tours, can they use the winners to create more awareness?  They could leave a lot of things the same with Miss USA.  But a lot of it needs to change with the times.

The pageant is all about women who are visually appealling - with their gowns, their bodies, their parading around, the Vaseline on the teeth, the perfect breasts, the glued-on smile.  Women today are no longer the meek whisper of "World Peace" from the 1950's Miss USA.  We have worked to be appreciated for our brains as well as our beauty.  That should be incorporated into anyone is supposed to represent perfection of the thousands and thousands of women they beat for the crown.

Does this bother you, too?  Contact any (or all) of the following - even copy the paragraph above and paste it into an e-mail to them.  Everyone's crazy about getting ratings - let them know that more people would be interested in watching the show if the candidates had as much mental talent as they do physical.

News you can Use:  ENFORCE "No Child Left Behind"
"How can you say
No child is left behind
We're not dumb, and we're not blind."
-Pink, "Dear Mr. President,"
I'm Not Dead

17 million children are attending schools that undermine thier health and learning, because the Bush administration has failed to follow through with properly allocating dollars for their hyped-up program.

Do not stand for this.  Sign this petition that goes to Rod Paige, Secretary, Department of Education telling him that you want funding for healthy schools.  The Healthy and High Performance Schools Program was created to alleviate problems such as mold, pesticide use, lead-contaminated water and asbestos exposure in aging public schools.  These exposures lead to asthma, which can be extremely serious in children.

Please fill out this petition, it's easy to do.

Talks with North Korea on Nuclear Weapons End With No Agreement
Talks with Beijing about North Korea's nuclear weapon possibilities have ended with no progress and are expected to resume next year.  The United States and North Korea are supposedly trading blame.

"By the end of the week it was clear they [(North Korea)] would not engage on the actual denuclearization issue," says U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill said on Friday, December 22nd.

These talks have been going on for three years; the US, China, South Korea, Japan and Russia have tried to convince North Korea to end it's nuclear programs in return for diplomatic and financial benefits.  Although North Korea agreed in 2005, they haven't budged an inch, and even conducted its first nuclear weapon test in October.

So, let me get this straight:  we're still in a country that we've turned upside-down and found no nuclear weapons - and, meanwhile, we're sending the message that North Korea can have them and test them, and we'll do nothing.

TELL YOUR CONGRESSMAN THAT THIS IS NOT OKAY .  I don't care who the country is, or the person, having a nuclear weapon is not okay with me.

I'm Going to Spare You the Stomachache, and Just Give You the Facts.

Pink is getting active with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), and she has a message for you this holiday season:  "I am calling on consumers to check labels on sweaters before buying them, and if they're merino wool or [any animal fiber] made in Australia, leave them on the racks."

The video, narrated by Pink, and available on PETA's website, is not something you want to watch.  I watched it, and I deeply regret watching it.  However, I will not buy Australian wool ever again.

There is no reason behind the way the sheep on wool farms are treated in Australia.  In wool farms in America, sheep are sheared and/or shaved, which farmers will tell you (and it makes sense) that the sheep enjoys it because it relieves the heat.  But in Australia, they use a practice known as "mulesing."  Australian farmers are breeding their sheep to have unnatural giant folds of skin so that they will have more wool; and then, instead of shearing the sheep, they literally just cut the entire skin off of the the sheep's rear, with no pain medication...and the sheep stays that way, with flies breeding in their wounds, until it scars up - or the sheep dies.

The video is extremely graphic, which PETA is pretty infamous for...but the facts themselves speak loudly enough.  It's inhumane, it's not right, and it probably saves them nothing in the long run anyhow, because of the number of sheep that die from it.

To go to a simple form to send an e-mail to John Howard, the Prime Minister of Australia, click here.  Tell him that the horrible practice of mulesing has to stop.  And until it does, please check clothing labels for the origin of the fabric.

Donald Trump and Rosie O'Donnell Fight
Rosie O'Donnell ought to pick her fights with someone else, because we all know how nasty Donald Trump can get (think Donald vs. Martha Stewart).

I was going to write about this whole Miss USA scandal, but I really can't get a handle on how I feel about it.  If you hadn't heard, Miss USA was reported by the media to be underage drinking, using illegal drugs (she allegedly tested positive for cocaine), and partying nonstop.  She met with Donald Trump - the semi-new owner of the Miss USA enterprise - and they later held a press release together where Miss USA Tara Conner cried, said Trump has a huge heart, and that she is very sorry.  Donald decided to give her a second chance, saying that she's just a down-home Kentucky girl that got caught up in the whirlwind of New York, and that she could be an excellent example for "troubled people" if given the chance.

So, anyways, here is your play-by-play:

Rosie said Trump's press conference annoyed her "on a multitude of levels" and that Trump had no right to be a "moral compass."

"He inherited a lot of money," she said.  "Wait a minute, and he's been bankrupt so many times where he didn't have to pay...I just think that this man is sort of like one of those, you know, snake oil salesmen in Little House on the Prairie."

"[She's a] slob.  I never went bankrupt, but she said I went bankrupt.  So probably I'll sue her because it would be fun."

Rosie posted an excerpt from Trump's biography on her website, detailing his rocky financial history.

"I will let you know if the Donald sues me.  Don't you find him charming."

"Maybe she wanted to put the crown back on Miss USA's head.  I think she's very attracted to Miss USA so she probably wanted to put the crown on her head herself."

"Wasn't that a fun night of viewing?...Look who's here today:  Kelli.  I was afraid to leave her home in case somebody with a comb-over came and stole her from me."

"She is a very, very unattractive woman who really is a bully...Ultimately, Rosie is a loser, and ultimately ["The View"] will fail because of Rosie...Barbara [Walters] made a mistake, and let me tell you something, Barbara's a good friend of mine.  She cannot stand Rosie O'Donnell."

Women For Peace Ask America to Say No to More Troops

President Bush is asking for another 100 billion dollars, and tens of thousands more troops sent to Iraq.  The Women For Peace committee has found a way for you to say "No."

Their website has an easy form to fill out that is automatically sent to your U.S. senators, your member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and your nearest daily newspaper.  What an amazing formula.  The form tells them that you oppose sending more troops to Iraq - and there is also an optional checkbox at the bottom that adds:

"I will not vote for or support any candidate for Congress or President who does not make a speedy end to the war in Iraq, and preventing any future war of aggression, a public position in his or her campaign."

You can send the form as is, or add your own personal message as well.

Filling out the form took me only about 60 seconds, and sent my voice out to 4 government officials and one large newspaper.

Do you have 60 seconds?

FYI:  White Christmas in Denver, look out!

This Makes Me Smile
I'm sure I'll get some more hate mail on this one, because some people are greatly opposed to free handouts for the poor.  I will defend this the way I always do:  "Whatsoever you do, to the least of my people, that you do unto me."  And if that offends you...well, sorry.

Master chef and former restaurant owner Michael Ennes is whipping up some fancy food in the Four Star Soup Kitchen for approximately 260,000 homeless in New York City.  At the Broadway Presbyterian Church, Ennes is cooking barbequed bison steak; poached chicken stuffed with apples and ladled with fresh fennel and broth; endive salad with basil vinaigrette; and other delicacies that are fit for the poshest of eateries.

He pulls together leftovers from fancy Manhattan restaurants, combined with donations from food charity programs, and turns them into a little slice of heaven for the people that can't afford to buy their own meals.

"I am taking nothing away from the art of high cuisine in good restaurants, but here I feel like I am making a difference in people's lives," he said.

To make a donation to the Broadway Presbyterian Church, who also assists members of the community struggling with substance abuse and other calamities, send an anonymous (or not) check to:
