Not Enough Of You Are Boycotting The Olympics
Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 by Connie T.

Ratings don't lie...actually, who really knows?--but here's what we're
told. NBC's coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing is supposedly raking in
the dough. NBC Universal claims
the Olympics drew an average audience of 29.1 million in the first two days, the highest
rated broadcast of non-U.S. Summer Games since 1976.
It cost General Electric - the
owner of the NBC channels - almost $900 million to obtain broadcasting rights for the Olympic
Games. And God knows they've been plugging it enough, everywhere from local news broadcasts
to MSNBC and beyond.
This news makes us sad because there are so many reasons not
to tune in. The Olympic Games are supposed to be about promoting fundamental ethical
principles, and meanwhile the people of Tibet, Darfur, and China itself are oppressed, jailed,
censored, and killed in massive human rights violations. If you've been tuning in, please
reconsider. You can always try to catch some of it on Google Video or YouTube.
