If
Ohioans
Don't
Speak Up, They
May Lose Pit Bulls Entirely
Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Some cities in Ohio - like Parma and
Garfield Heights, for example - have already lost their right to own
pit bulls and similar mixed breeds in Ohio, after the
city councils passed Breed Specific Legislation (BSL). Now, every
city in Ohio may stand to lose ownership rights to own these pups of
England ancestry...unless Ohioans speak up and say otherwise.
Ohio
Representative Tyrone Yates, a 54 year old Democratic
member of the Ohio House of Representatives (33rd District, Cincinnati)
introduced House Bill 568 yesterday. The Bill, if passed,
would prohibit the ownership of pit bulls to all residents of the State of
Ohio, and would require all owners to surrender their pit bulls
within 90 days of the effective date of the proposed
law.
The Bill further legislates that all pit bulls would be
euthanized by dog wardens within 10
days of their surrender. Those who do not surrender their
pets would be subject to a search, and seizure of the
animal(s).
Ohio already has strict laws with regard to pit bull
ownership, requiring all owners to carry at least $100,000 of liability
insurance.
It is very important to voice your opinion on this
issue, whether verbally or in writing/e-mail, as this Bill could pass
without opponents.
Contact your House representative
immediately and advise your opinion of Bill 568.
