Obama's Low-Flying Jet Terrifies Ground Zero
Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 by Connie T.
This is the kind of story that makes you shake your head in disbelief. For a federal
government photo opportunity - and if you've ever checked out the White House's website (which has
been newly redesigned after President Barack Obama's inauguration, by the way, made spiffier) - Obama's Boeing
747 escorted by two fighter jets zipped down over Manhattan at 10:00 am Monday.
The problem? They
didn't tell anyone they were going to due it, and they flew low to the ground right over workers at the new
Ground Zero, right around the same time of day no less, than the terrible attacks of September 11th, 2001
in NYC.
New York City Mayor (and mogul) Michael Bloomberg said, "Why the Defense Department
wanted to do a photo-op right around the site of the World Trade Center catastrophe defies imagination."
The White
House has issued a public apology, and Obama is reportedly
"furious" over the decision, according to the NY Times. Louis Caldera,
the director of Military Office, has taken the hot seat, and his position is subject to review.
