Random Trivia: What Does Obama Mean In Japanese?
Thursday, April 30th, 2009 by Connie T.

I didn't know this, either, but for some reason Google
Trends is "volcanic" with this question today, so you know we had to get the scoop for
you. What does "Obama" mean in Japanese?
It actually does translate, and in the language
of Japan Obama means "little beach."
In fact, there is a small fishing town in central Japan
named Obama, and they made
headlines during the primaries last year when they used shirts, headbands, cakes and signs
to display their support for then-presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Obama thanked
the city "for your support and encouragement and thank you for your thoughtful gift." The gift? A
letter, DVD, and lacquered chopsticks sent to President O. by town Obama's Mayor, Toshio Murakami.
