Rosie O'Donnell's 'Shady' Squirrel
|
This is just way too cute. Anyone that has stopped by Rosie O'Donnell's blog before likely knows about the fuzzy gray squirrel that Rosie's family has named Shady. Shady the Squirrel frequently visits the O'Donnell's porch, and his close-ups all started when Rosie decided to tie a nut to a string, hang it from the glass porch door, and see if the squirrel would come and get it.

Highlights & Commentary from the Republican Debate
|
There was even a sanctuary mansion, Giuliani said. At Romney's own home, illegal immigrants were being employed, not being turned into anybody or by anyone. And then when he deputized the police, he did it two weeks before he was going to leave office, and they never even seemed to catch the illegal immigrants that were working at his mansion.

Britney Spears was nude in her her preggers photo shoot for Harpers Bazaar in June of 2006 - in fact, Britney was technically wearing more in most shots, if you count the jewelry - but Christina's give much more of a refined yet celebratory vibe Check out the difference.

Of all the "celebrity" reporting the media likes to do, they dedicate tiny blurbs and obscure little articles for many things celebrities do that are actually meaningful - which the mass media purposely does to distract us from the bigger issues at hand, I think. And when a celebrity arrest occurs, the mug shot makes it to the front page of blogs everywhere...except when the warrant is issued for activism.

The President/Turkey Tradition We Never Understood

I don't think I'm the only one who doesn't understand the point of the White House tradition to have the President pardon a turkey on Thanksgiving. This year marked the 60ths anniversary of the practice, although the origin of the tradition is disputed. Some say Harry Truman pardoned a turkey, but the Truman Library was unable to find any evidence supporting it.

Mike Tyson and Lindsay Lohan hit the slammer
|
Today's celebrity (in)justice sees Mike Tyson sentence to 24 hours in jail, and Lindsay Lohan skating out of her light sentence. As for Lohan, she only served 84 minutes in jail, despite the 4-day minimum sentence requirement (her judge opted for the smallest punishment possible for the crime). Prosecutors allowed her to serve 10 days of community service instead of two days' worth of jail time, and she was credited for time served from the July DUI charge, so it left only 24 hours in jail, which was hardly reached.

How could this have happened, I wondered? GoDaddy.com, my hosting company, recommends that you choose a password for your website that is 7-14 characters, a combination of letters and numbers, with a variation of capital and lowercase letters. I did have that. I never once thought about the security of my site - never thought anyone would be malicious enough to delete information on how to contact your political representatives, alternative health methods, where to find breast cancer info, tributes to Veterans, ways to stop animal abuse, civil rights petitions, news and advice on important issues from A to Z.

Eighteen people total were arrested in Boston yesterday after holding a peaceful protest during the Boston Veterans Day Parade, sponsored by the American Legion. After being told they could not carry antiwar signs, members of the group Veterans for Peace added gags around their mouths, and clenched tightly to their signs that oppose the Iraq War. The gags were to symbolize the violation of their right to free speech, they said.

Hallmark responds to Paris Hilton's lawsuit
|
Hilton has become a household name, based in large part on her efforts to draw attention to herself. Having done so, she has subjected herself to public scrutiny and the parodist's pen. The First Amendment does not allow her to respond by welcoming the fawning and flattering, but silencing the critical and comical.

A Rochester man has come forward with an unseen vintage David Bowie mugshot from the rocker's 1976 Rochester arrest for felony marijuana. As if you needed another reason to hate AT&T
|
A year or so later, he stumbled upon documents that, he said, nearly caused him to fall out of his chair. The documents, he said, show that the NSA gained access to massive amounts of e-mail and search and other Internet records of more than a dozen global and regional telecommunications providers. AT&T allowed the agency to hook into its network at a facility in San Francisco and, according to Klein, many of the other telecom companies probably knew nothing about it.

Madonna's message to you about Malawi
|
Madonna posted this on her Raising Malawi website today: From the moment I began my work on behalf of Malawi’s ONE MILLION orphans, people have asked, 'Why did you choose Malawi?' I always answer, 'I didn’t. Malawi chose me.' Malawi is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Unfortunately, it is also one of the poorest - suffering from famine, drought, extreme poverty, and deadly diseases like HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis. All of which could be treated with proper health care and education, if it were available.

Why I'm leaning towards Ron Paul in 2008

I usually vote Democratic. Although I weigh all of the candidates carefully, and wish the public would support more than just the two main parties so heavily, the most likely and agreeable candidates in my mind often end up happening to be Democrats.
