This is the kind of thing that drives me crazy, because the U.S. went to
war with Iraq over a false lead that Iraq might have nuclear weapons. Yet today North Korea
is saying they do not care to be taken off the United States' terrorism blacklist, and refuse
to abide by a nuclear disarmament deal.
"[North Korea] neither wishes to be delisted as a
'state sponsor of terrorism' nor expects such a thing to happen," said
a Foreign Ministry spokesman.
Not only that, but North Korea even relayed that they have begun
to work to restore their Soviet-era Yongbyon plant, which makes bomb-grade plutonium. The plant was
being torn down beginning in November of last year, as part of a deal with the U.S., China, Japan,
Russia, and South Korea.
So in other words, N. Korea is saying to us: we have nuclear
capabilities, and we plan on using them. What are you going to do about it?
Nothing, because
we're busy shuffling
troops around from Iraq to Afghanistan at the moment. We'll get back to you.
