The New 90210 Is A 9021-No
Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 by Connie T.

Shame. We tuned into the CW's new spin-off of Beverly Hills, 90210 last night. After
anticipating the series for most of the summer, I lasted exactly 18 minutes, and couldn't go on.
In my late 20's, I have fond memories of growing up to the first series, produced by the late
Aaron Spelling.
The CW doesn't even come close.
Maybe it is geared toward teens and
not so much the 18 to 29 demographic - but I can't imagine it's even appropriate for pre-18 categories considering
the premier episode had a
scene of a guy getting a blow job in his car before the first commercial break.
With the return
of Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth, the gossip that Tori Spelling and
Luke Perry might make eventual appearances, and a character played by Lori Laughlin,
I thought the show would have something geared towards young- to middle-aged adults. Instead it centers around Shenae Grimes (18),
AnnaLynne McCord (21), and Tristan Wilds (19), who participate in flighty dialogue and
none of whom look old enough to drive. My TV companion asked if I might not rather tune in to
Hannah Montana.
And then they throw in poor Jessica Walter as "Tabitha
Wilson," whose is forced into the corniest role of all: she dresses like a Golden Girl,
is as believable as Mrs. Doubtfire, and has all the charm of Miss Hannigan in Annie.
If you'd told me 10 years ago that there would be a 2-hour episode of 90210 I couldn't
bear to watch, I'd have begged to differ. Oh, the disappointment.
