US Marines Leave Afghan Opium Poppy Fields Untouched.
The Taliban can make up to $100 million per year
from the harvesting of poppy fields in Afghanistan -
money that will buy weapons for use against US, NATO and Afghan
troops. But as the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit moved into
southern Helmand province last week - the world's largest opium
poppy-growing region - Marines reassure villagers that the poppies will be
left alone.
