April 14th News Roundup: Other Stuff You Don't Want To Miss

Monday, April 14th, 2008

We told you last Thursday that AP Photographer Bilal Hussein may be freed.  PDNOnline reports that Bilal has been granted amnesty on the final accusation against him, but is still being detained as his third year in jail began yesterday.

Ivana Trump
sold her wedding pictures with new husband/singer Rossano Rubicondi for $600,000 to Getty Images.  What would Donald Trump say?  Well, Jossip's reporting that The Donald may have actually negotiated the terms of the deal.  Every time I read something like this, it makes me want to morph into Robin Hood.

In an article appropriately dubbed "There Goes Journalism" by The Huffington Post, the AP announces that Rupert Murdoch and Sam Zell have joined the Board of Directors of The Associated Press.  There is nothing I can say to this except $%&^*#! (:?, += <*'&-9(, and I knew this was coming.  We need a new news organization for the real journalists that remain and won't be swayed...echo...echo...

Gucci has told PETA that it will no longer sell seal fur.  Are they due a "hip, hip, hoorah" or an "It's about time?"

Bad news:  last week was the bloodiest week for U.S. troops in Iraq all year.  19 American soldiers were killed from Sunday to Sunday, according to the (pre-Murdoch/Zell) AP.

I'm telling you, no one will ever let this woman rest in peace.  Either that or she's laughing at all of them from beyond.  A 15-minute film of Marilyn Monroe clothed but engaging in oral sex (supposedly) with an unidentified man has been purchased by a New York businessman for $1.5 million dollars.  The sale was arranged between the son of a dead FBI informant and a wealthy Manhattan businessman who not only had $1,500,000 to toss around but also found this a worthy non-cause to give it to.  Reuters reports that Joe DiMaggio tried to buy this tape from the "memorabilia collector" who had it for $25,000 and the dealer wouldn't part with it.

Microsoft wants to retire Windows XP on June 30th, and XP users are saying, no, no, no.  Over 100,000 people have signed InfoWorld's Galen Gruman's petition to "SAVE XP," which is complete with a ticker that counts down the end to XP and the push into Windows Vista.

Have you seen the latest Mac commercials by the way, that call Vista "screwed up?"  Is that even legal?  I have both XP and Vista, and I've got to say I do like XP way better...but I wouldn't exactly call Vista "screwed up," either.  Big Brother, maybe.
