Hundreds of Tibetans
demonstrated in a march today that defies the police ban against
demonstrating to protest the 2008 Olympics in
Beijing. The march is expected to take six months.
About 300 Buddhist monks also marched, "one of the boldest public
challenges to China's rule in recent years," according to the AP. And they definitely have a lot to challenge.
A suicide bomber in central Baghdad
killed five U.S. soldiers yesterday and wounded three
others, including the Iraqi interpreter who was with them. U.S.
officials announced that three other American soldiers were killed the same day, bringing the U.S.
death toll to 8 in one day, in an attack by an improvised bomb in
eastern Diyala - but wouldn't release further details.
