Interactive Poll has released a new survey showing that 88% of people
with a post-graduate education were involved in a form of music learning
while in school, and 83% of people earning $150,000 or more had a music
education.
Hey, I have a
music education! Hel-LO?
"Part of it is
the discipline itself in learning music, it's a rigorous discipline, and
in an ensemble situation, there's a great deal of working with
others. Those types of skills stand you well in careers later in
life," said John Mahlmann of the National Institute for Music Education
in Virginia, which assisted in the survey.
"That's the
beauty of music, that they can bring both hard work and enjoyment
together, which doesn't always happen elsewhere," he added.
2,565 people
took part in the survey, and those who found music to extremely
fulfilling as a student were those who had either vocal lessons or who
played in a garage band.

There is an
entire website dedicated to independent garage bands trying to make it,
