Michigan House Votes For Smoking Ban
Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 by Connie T.

The Michigan House voted yesterday to ban smoking in all workplaces - including
bars and restaurants - except for casinos. The House and Senate, however, are in disagreement over
whether or not Detroit's casinos should be smoke-free.
The casinos say that a ban on smoking
in their establishments would result in hundreds of jobs lost in Detroit, a city already hit hard
by the economy in recent years. We are inclined to agree...in fact, smoking in restaurants, bars, and
casinos is one of the main reasons to make the trip for cigarette and cigar aficionados in neighboring
states where bans are already in place. And take it from me, the ban in Ohio has twisted the knife into
bars and dining spots...many small business owners have insisted they went under for just that reason.
I wonder why the House and the Senate are battling this out and not the voters...?
