Mia Farrow's Hunger Strike For Darfur

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009  by Connie T.

Mia Farrow - famous actress, humanitarian, former fashion model and ex-wife of Frank Sinatra and Woody Allen - is tired of sitting around doing nothing about the crisis in Darfur. Beginning on Monday, the 64-year old icon is beginning to fast. For at least 21 days, Farrow says she will drink water only.

"Please don't even try to talk me out of this," she said. "I'm just an actress. I'm not presuming anybody will care whether I starve to death or whether I go on a long hunger strike or what. But it's a personal matter. I can't be among those that watch - and I honestly couldn't think of anything else to do."

Last month, the Sudanese government expelled international aid to Darfur, prompting Farrow to take action.

Some may see Farrow's actions as heroic, but we don't advise that you risk your health. Let's start small, it's definitely better than nothing at all, and if we don't take action before May 1st, the deadline for the international aid of 13 humanitarian groups for Darfur will expire. By signing this petition, you can make a difference with just a few types and a click. It will send a letter through Amnesty International USA to Ambassadors Yahya A. Mahmassani, Lila Hanitra Ratsifandrihamanana, and H. E. Khidir Haroun Ahmed urging them to press the government of Sudan to immediately reverse its decision to expel humanitarian aid to the millions of men, women and children in Darfur without food, water, and medicine.
