McCain Has 7 Homes, But Doesn't Know It

Look, John McCain is not your average U.S. citizen. It drives me nuts when
people go on about how Barack Obama is a so-called "elitist" and act as if McCain is not. This
week Sen. McCain proved just how detached he is from our own reality: he didn't know how many houses
he owns.
A reporter from Politico.com asked
the Senator, "How many houses do you and Mrs. McCain have?"
"I think, uh, I'll have my staff
get to you," was McCain's answer. He did not know.
This is worse than even McCain's $520
Italian calfskin shoes, and his arguably shady
income reporting.
While people all over the country are struggling to save their homes from
foreclosure - many of them losing the battle - John McCain has more properties than he can think of.
Barack Obama revealed the number to be seven homes under McCain's ownership, while speaking at a rally
in Chester, Virginia yesterday.
McCain's camp, of course, hit
back, saying, "Does a guy who made more than $4 million last year, just got back from a vacation on a
private beach in Hawaii, and bought his own multi-million dollar mansion with the help of a convicted
felon really want to get into a debate about houses?"
Whether or not Obama is similarly "out of touch"
is a separate point, though: the damage to McCain has been done. Not that anyone thought he was
working class or anything. Obama's camp further relayed that
the combined value of McCain's seven properties is at least $13 million.
We should all just accept the fact that until we stop making this race
about a giant media duel with giant campaign spending and only two giant parties seriously considered
countrywide, we are not going to end up with two candidates like you or me.
