John McCain Wearing Baby Calves

Isabel Wilkinson of the Huffington Post is one smart writer, with
quite the eye for details. Details like John McCain's $520 black leather Ferragamo shoes.
That's right - in an article in the Huff Po
last week, Wilkinson pointed out that John McCain has been making every campaign stop
recently wearing a pair of calfskin loafers with silver Gancini buckles from Italy. "What better
way to show his American pride," Wilkinson wrote, "Than to tour the country in Italian leather?"
Crooks
and Liars wisely compares this to John Edwards' $400 haircuts, and how
that story was fodder for Republicans everywhere, printed multiple times in the Washington Post
and joked about from FOX to CNN and beyond.
I was talking to a friend
earlier who summarized the underlying theme of the Republican push against Barack Obama in four
words: "He's not like you"...If so, I have a message for every American family who
can't imagine spending $520 for a pair of loafers: John McCain isn't like you, either.
[And] put it this way - if Barack Obama
paid $520 for a pair of Italian loafers, every voter in America would know about it. Every
media outlet would report it and every Republican would talk about it. Not only
that, but PETA is putting
the spotlight on Obama over a dog that isn't even had yet, while McCain is literally walking on
baby cows.
