There's Only One
Mariah, Period, End Of Story
Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Good grief. New Zealand's "Stuff"
Entertainment News published an article today called "Let the Mariah
Carey, Leona Lewis feud begin." Poor Mariah. After being in
the spotlight for about 18 years, Mariah has been compared to everyone
from Ciara to Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson to Celine Dion, and
countless up-and-comers that never quite made it.
Stuff reported
that Mariah doesn't see a similarity between Leona Lewis and her music,
saying, "Honestly, there has been so many, 'This is the new her,' and I'm
like, 'Okay, show me the new her. Can she come and work for me and
be my double?'"
"And I'm not [in] particular talking about this
girl Leona, because I only heard her once and I didn't really hear a true
similarity, particularly in her style of music...it is what it is and
critics have compared me to so many people who are not really singers, and
they're certainly not writers...If I was to focus on the comparisons and
really dwell on that, it would bring me down so I just try to pray that I
lose the spirit of jealousy, it's not a good one - envy is a really
powerful thing."
We're totally siding with Mariah on this
one. People are obviously trying to stir up a tiff where
there is none - and, really, Leona Lewis is 23 years old and brand new to
the music scene. Mariah, no matter what she does with her career
from this point on, has already established that she's a music
legend. It reminds us of the internet rumors that were going around
earlier this year that Mariah said she'd rather be on stage with a pig
than Jennifer Lopez (which was a complete fabrication).
Didn't we
learn in kindergarten that every person is completely unique? Why do
we constantly have to compare talented women to each other in the
media?
