Marvelous Malia And Sweet Sasha Renamed
Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009 by Connie T.

Early last month Ty, the makers of Beanie Babies, debuted dolls called
"Marvelous Mariah" and "Sweet Sasha" for $9.99 each, bearing a cartoonish (at best) likeness
to the adorable daughters, ages 10 and 7, of President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama.
Michelle, however, was not pleased with the likeness, speaking out that corporations shouldn't be
trying to make a buck off of young private citizens.
Yesterday, Ty - who first admitted the inspiration for the dolls,
and then claimed
any resemblance to the real Sasha and Malia Obama were coincidental - pulled out of the bout and
renamed the dolls "Marvelous Mariah" and "Sweet Sydney."
Which probably means the limited amount of
dolls printed as Malia and Sasha will up their price tag on eBay, and Ty just got a lot of free press. The dolls - with their
strange stuffed busts, we might add (I mean, 10 and 7 years old?)- will remain the same in appearance.
