Jon Stewart for President: The Daily
Show host's brutal honest with Lynne Cheney
Saturday, October 13th,
2007
I don't think it would be possible to love
The Daily Show any more than I do. Jon Stewart, with the clever
guise of comedy, manages to break barriers politically by talking with
brutal honesty to Lynne Cheney, Vice President Dick Cheney's wife,
about the truth.
On The Daily Show yesterday, Lynne Cheney said that terrorists were
striking regularly between 1993 and 2001 but have not struck since
9/11. "It's been more than six years, and that is not an
accident. I think this administration - my husband and the
President - deserve a lot of credit for that," she stated.
Dead silence. Not one clap in the studio audience. A pin
could drop. "Okay," Stewart replies. And then they
laugh. And we laugh, but we're listening very, very closely.
"Friends?" Lynne asked.
No censorship here: he sits next to the wife of the Vice
President of the United States, looks her in the eyes, and says, "We are
friends, I just...you know they have been doing that all these past six
years, they've been...you know, the Spanish bombing, the English
bombing, and then all the bombs in Iraq."
"Yes, yes, but we're talking about American interests,"
Lynne replies.
"Aren't we interested in...? Alright. I'd
assume that they were our allies, but alright."
