Louisiana
Caucuses
Get Ignored In The News
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008
The Louisiana Republican caucuses were
yesterday, and in the state that has been constantly pointed out
by Democrats for being neglected by national attention in the
aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, only one candidate showed up Monday night
to visit and campaign in the state: Ron Paul.
Paul flew into
Louisiana for a three-city tour, in which he highlighted the issues
surrounding the country's shaky economy, and said that the Federal Reserve
has allowed the dollar to weaken, hurting the middle class and leading to
inflation.
"I would enjoy being the next president to get rid of
our central bank," Paul said Monday. He blamed the "print and spend"
theory for the fall of the U.S. dollar, and said he could cure the
economic crisis by putting to an end the "hyper-expensive, hyper-dangerous
empire all around the globe."
The Louisiana caucuses are very
complicated, though, which is why there isn't much coverage available on
them. Results from yesterday are not yet in; but this caucus will
determine who moves on to the state convention for Louisiana, which will
be on February 16th.
Word on the blogosphere - take that for what
it's worth - is that McCain and Paul are in the top two spots. But
who is first and who is second (and whether that's even true) is not yet
known.
We'll keep looking - if you find out anything, let us know!
